A decade after the International Ship & Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code was introduced, a leading shipping authority has told insurers and shipowners that ISPS is still not consistently implemented across the world. ISPS was created in reaction to the 11 September attacks to provide a standardised, consistent framework for evaluating risk, leading to security improvements where needed. At the Port Security: Risk, Threats & Opportunities conference, organised by the Security Association for the Maritime Industry, speaker Sascha Pristrom, of the International Maritime Organization's security unit, said IMO inspectors found vastly different standards of security at ports across the world.
