The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) has appointed Michael Phoon as executive director, replacing Daniel Tan, who is retiring after 29 years. Phoon, 53, will formally take over the position on 1 August. He was previously director and general manager of Hewlett Packard's enterprise networking business unit for southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. SSA honorary secretary Esben Poulsson noted that Phoon had been selected despite being from outside of shipping, saying he had "demonstrated a level of understanding, enthusiasm, and passion for the role and was in the end simply chosen on the basis of being the best person for the job".
