India's classification society, Indian Register of Shipping, is looking to broaden its coverage into Europe. "We have been audited by the European Maritime Safety Agency [EMSA] for European Union recognition, and so far the feedback is quite positive," said Arun Sharma, chairman and managing director of Indian Register, the most recent full member of the International Association of Classification Societies. The tonnage classed by the register today is "significantly under the Indian flag", but Sharma told IHS Maritime that it had "several ships under other flags, including Panama, UAE, St Vincent, Sri Lanka, Marshall Islands, and Maldives".
