Hong Kong's administration is trying to bolster its maritime sector, rolling out new industry-friendly policies to counter new challenges from regional competitors that also want hub status. Chief executive Chun-ying Leung, who assumed office in July 2012, has secured a green light from legislation calling for solid support for the maritime industry. In April, the administration launched the HKD100M ($12.9M) Maritime & Aviation Training Fund, which had been approved by the Legislative Council in January. The fund is aimed at supporting manpower development for those two sectors over five years.
