Even as Shanghai tries to improve its chances of becoming an international maritime hub, Wallem Group's head office remains firmly rooted in the Hong Kong region. Managing director Simon Doughty of Wallem told IHS Maritime the reason why the group was staying put: "We think time will tell on the initiatives that the authori-ties are taking in Shanghai." He was referring to the new drive by Shanghai's free trade zone to lure international ship management companies. "I welcome any city government that is keen to attract and support maritime businesses," he emphasised.
