The chief of the Baltic Ports Organization (BPO) has warned of serious consequences if shipowners fail to keep ports informed on plans to switch fuels in response to the Baltic Sulphur Emission Control Area (ECA) taking effect in January. "Obviously, ports must know if shipowners are planning to use LNG [liquefied natural gas] in order to be prepared," BPO secretary-general Bogdan Oldakowski told IHS Maritime. "Ports will not invest if they see no prospect of LNG ships.
