Brazil, the economic powerhouse of South America, faces deepening economic scepticism this year in the wake of surprisingly poor performance in 2012. Brazil's 3Q12 GDP - rising only 0.6% versus the previous three months - came as a shock to many. IHS Global Insight believes 4Q12 numbers will come in stronger, but not strong enough to push Brazil's annual 2012 GDP growth above 1%. A persistent hurdle to higher growth has been poor logistics - the inefficiency and congestion at Brazil's ports that has long hampered the country's ability to capitalise on its resource wealth and stifled investor confidence.
