Ship finance is at a crossroads, said Martin Stopford, president of Clarkson's Research, at the Marine Money forum on ship finance held in Hamburg last week. In the present economic climate, one of the great challenges is to escape from the current sentiment to see the future in a way that allows us to make useful decisions. Shipping is now in its 22nd trough since 1741 and this is one "could drag on; take it seriously, it could be one of the longer ones", warned Stopford.
