The alliances among container carriers are likely to be long-lasting as the industry battles overcapacity and high bunker prices. This was discussed at Sea Asia 2013 in Singapore last week. This year marks a peak in container ship newbuilding deliveries but carriers need ultra-large container ships to enjoy lower slot costs on the long-haul trades.
