In fact, for the duration of Nor-Shipping, Tju-vholmen will be transformed into "Nor-Shipping Island" - an exclusive arena for networking, socializing and community events. Long ago, Tjuvholmen (literally "thieves peninsula") was known for its shady characters and dealings. Today, through the Fjord City urban renewal program, it has become an epicenter for contemporary art, high-class restaurants and exclusive urban living at the water's edge. The adjoining wharf-side neighborhood of Aker Brygge, formerly home to shipyards, still retains some of its maritime heritage. Now a bustling business and residential area, it is also the location for many of Oslo's maritime services companies.
