The Chinese newbuilding market experienced a gently firming pricing trend during the second half of April. The composite China Newbuilding Price Index (CNPI) showed a further 0.1% increase, closing at 863 points on 30 April. The CNPI has accumulated a 0.8% rebound from the 2012 trough. Newbuilding orders for the dry bulker sector were the main driving force for the market and they pushed up the CNDPI (dry bulkers) by two points to 850 during the past two weeks. CNTPI (tankers) and CNCPI (container ships) were reported at 906 and 865 points respectively.
