Outlook: The pattern of slight improvements for smaller box ships and losses for bigger tonnage continued last week. The former trend was powerful enough to lift the overall ConTex into positive territory, with a 1 point, or 0.3%, weekly gain. Geared 1,700 and 1,100teu designs saw rate assessments climb by 0.9% and 0.7%, fuelled by good demand and tight availability, especially in the Mediterranean. Non-index post-Panamax charter ships face growing pressures as open positions pile up amid a lack of requirements.
