Thinking on LNG has made the transition to a 'solutions, not problems' mentality. Penetrating the shipping market will, in other words, be an evolutionary rather than a revolutionary process, but it will come. The key barrier to a more rapid transition is the complex supply chain infrastructure required to support LNG. However, the capital investment required is unlikely to remain a hurdle for long as investors begin to tap into projections for the growth in the LNG bunkering market over the coming decades. For bunker suppliers LNG can, in principle, provide early adopters with a significant market advantage.
