Chile and Peru, the domestic engines of the West Coast South America (WCSA) sector, will see tepid trade growth this year but a gradual pick-up thereafter, according to IHS Global Insight. In both countries, a key driver in this year's muted forecast is reliance on mining exports, particularly copper, combined with more restrained growth in China, WCSA's top buyer. The combined value of imported and exported goods of both countries is projected to rise by 2.8% this year, up moderately from 1.8% in 2012, yet sharply below the 23% surge seen in 2011. Aggregate trade value growth is expected to accelerate to 5.7% next year, then settle in the 4.1-4.9% range up to 2017.
