Until now, South Africa has served as the gateway to southern Africa, but plans to steal the limelight have started further up the coast. A new container terminal at the Namibian port of Walvis Bay, which lies just south of Namibia's Skeleton Coast, is going to be built by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). It will not only increase container capacity at the port from 350,000teu to more than 1M teu, but promises to transform Walvis Bay into a viable gateway for the southern central Africa region.
