Outlook: Cyclones in Western Australia and increased bunker prices have held Capesize rates in stasis. To China, rates were $6.50/tonne for mid-March. Brazil-China fixtures were about $18/tonne, firming for late March to $19. Panamax markets saw grain trips fixed at about $52/tonne from Gulf of Mexico for March; in southern Brazil it is $47/tonne for April. Handysizes made $10,000/day for trips within the Asia/Pacific region. Indian iron ore shipment; have been strong, with Handymaxes at $16,000/day. Short period rates for Handymaxes and Supramaxes in Gulf of Mexico firmed to $20,000/day with charterers seeking $17,000-18,000/day.
