Intra-Asia cargo volumes are growing, but as Fairplay has learnt, profits are not guaranteed. Last week Malaysia's MISC, which began focusing on intra-Asia trade in 2009, reported a 452Mringgit($149M) loss for this segment in the quarter that ended 31 December 2010. Clarksons estimated that intra-Asia volume grew 11.6% year-on-year in 2010, after contracting by 7% in the recession of 2009.
