Two Japanese-built Panamaxes changed hands last week, giving a useful picture of current market levels in the face of continued freight index weakness. Grand Sky (built 1998 Sanoyas, 75,752dwt) has gone to undisclosed buyers for $20.3M at auction, while Greek buyers are believed to have paid $ 18.9M for New Arising (built 1995 Hitachi, 71,695dwt). Meanwhile, IMC's geared Panamax Maritime Queen (built 1994 Oshima, 73,350dwt) is said to have seen an offer at about $18M. However, the Singapore-based seller is holding out for at least $ 19M for the ship, which has four 25-tonne cranes. All these sales are being reported at levels far lower than last-done and it is notable that Grand Sky last changed hands for $27.2 5M in August 2009, according to IHS Fairplay data.
