Modifications to a ferry's propeller have increased its efficiency by 12%, according to the propeller's designer, MAN Diesel of Denmark. The ship is Scandlines' 21,154gt ferry Sassnitz. Although the operator's project engineer Rasmus Nielsen declined to quote precise fuel savings, he said they are less than that headline figure because propulsion accounts for only a proportion of the fuel consumption on ships with high hotel loads.
