Second-hand prices of container ships continue to rise as more deals get struck and confidence in a trade recovery grows. Meanwhile, the first owners are taking to the newbuilding yards again.rnInvestors and brokers have consistently lamented a paucity of sales candidates so far this year, but S&P activity has gained considerable momentum since late May, with about a dozen modern ships built from 2004 onwards changing hands. Gambling on a continuous rally in charter rates, buyers have pushed up secondhand prices by over 30% since January, to levels which sellers are increasingly willing to settle for. Belgian owner Delphis reportedly purchased two 2004-built Pan-amax vessels (the 3,09teu Wielan and Arike Ritscher) from German owners Tamke and Ritscher at a firm $30.9M each.
