"I really can't sing, but I can act-and it's amazing how if yournsurround yourself with good sing-ers, they carry you through," saidrnPeter Shaerf of his amateur theatrics. He has appeared in Anything Goes in 2006, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2007, Bye Bye Birdie last year and will play the mayor in The Musk Man this May. The performances are put on by Shaerf's Upper West Side synagogue, Rodeph Sholom, and attract a crowd from the local maritime scene.rn"Ifs great fun and I've become involved in the whole production," he told Fairplay. "My kids love it when I'm acting and it's a great community project. I'm a big believer in community, and for the synagogue, ifs the biggest event of the yearrnoutside the Jewish high holy days. I lucked out this year with the mayorrnpart in The Musk Man because it's a nice-sized role with no singing, although I'm scared to typecast myself into non-singing parts," he said, describing his singing style as 'Rex Harrison-ish'.
