There has been a slightly quieter air to the sale and purchase market over the past week. This does not necessarily mean that less business is being concluded, but possibly that the volume and accuracy of reporting by brokers may be lower as the holiday season kicks into gear. Chinese buyers are once again active, accounting for the greatest number of bulk carrier sales this week, although the focus seems to have shifted back towards older and smaller units.rnSoftening in the BDI, driven primarily by falling rates in the Cape sector, may be a precursor of the long-expected summer correction, but, as always, there are buyers and sellers sufficiently financed and confident in their convictions to ensure that the eternal game of sale and purchase keeps rolling on.
