BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto have abandoned joint marketing of their Western Australian iron ore production venture. The move is designed to assist regulatory approval. Up to 15% of production would have been sold by the joint venture, independent of Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton, but the companies said last week that all output would now be marketed separately to "clarify the nature of the joint venture".
