Eighteen months ago though they were positively laughing. and with good reason - the country was revelling in its biggest economic boom in recent history, which earned it the nickname Celtic tiger. The Irish property market, from mansions to pieds-a-terre, knew no bounds and Ireland's businessmen and entrepreneurs were the envy of Europe.
