With inbound container ships loaded with full-paying pre-Christmas imports from Europe and Asia, there is limited space for positioning empty reefer boxes into New Zealand for the start of the peak reefer season. At Hamburg Slid, GM for NZ Simon Edwards agrees it is a difficult balancing act: "All the major reefer carriers in this market suffer pressures on their reefer inventories at the start of every year, and January 2007 was no exception.
