Capesize rate levels have fallen by more than one-third in the past month. However, some analysts are noting that the rise of the market was caused by China, so the fall must also have been caused by China. The suggestion is that when Brazil and Australia proposed large price increases, Chinese importers acted with financial prudence in ordering as much at the old price as they could. Iron and steel manufacturing could not keep up with increased imports, and the balance was stockpiled in China awaiting use.
