When Hoeegh Autoliners, the new name for HUAL, ordered four 5,200-unit pure car and truck carriers from Tsuneishi last week, it marked Japan's first PCTC order of the year. Amid the spate of gas carrier and chemical tanker orders in Asia so far this year, car carriers seemed to have been left behind. Owners are finding it tough to gain slots for car carriers. But Hoegh triumphed, with all four ships due out in 2007."Delivery is within 2007 for all four vessels," Leif Hoeegh's senior VP Olav Sollie told Fairplay. Sollie declined to reveal the contract price or how the company had managed such an early delivery date. "Contract price is confidential, as per agreement between the parties," he noted. "But we have been working with Tsuneishi for some time to secure these vessels, and succeeded in large part due to the excellent and long-term relationship between the two compa-nies,"Sollie explained.
