After the doldrums of the last few weeks experienced by most of the tanker sector, this week's market upturn was a welcome relief for owners everywhere. All size sectors recorded week on week gains in earnings, led by the VLCC sector, but charterers are already thought to be stepping back to assess the situation, so gains might prove to be short-lived. In Opec's monthly Oil Market Report, the latest forecast incorporating projections through to 2006 suggests that the requirement for Opec crude will be higher than previously anticipated. This is largely because of lower than expected output from non-Opec sources.
