To have 55 sisters is remarkable. The ice-class 1B tanker Baltic Argonaut has this claim to fame. It was built to this popular design by Hyundai Mipo for about $29M and is due to be delivered later this month. The seller, Interorient Navigation of Cyprus, has obtained $45.6M for the vessel from Augusta Due from Italy. One of its four dozen and seven sister ships, Delos (pictured), was bought by the Australian navy to replace HMAS Westralia, one of three Cammel Laird Stat-32s bought in 1979. The navy intends to spend $50M to convert Delos for a fleet support role, including replenishment at sea.The expensive part will be enlarging its accommodation. A couple of weeks ago, Fairplay reported on the sale of one of the last Burmeister & Wain-built tankers to be sold.
