The second ship in a series of sisters has been sold. Originally contracted by AP Moller from its Odense Steel shipyard and delivered in 1986, the 'R' class of five vessels were sold after a decade. The most recent owner, D'amico, sold the first of them, Cielo di Barents, 18 months ago for $11.5M. Just to demonstrate how much the clean market has firmed in recent months, its sister Cielo di Baffin is reported sold to Egyptian buyers for $17.75M. The IMO Ⅱ/Ⅲ vessels were ahead of their time as being built with double hulls. Many will remember the 1982-built Suezmax Australian tanker Mobil Flinders of 149,235dwt. Purchased by Vardinoyannis in 2002 and renamed Navarina, it has now been sold to Singaporean buyers for $22M. It is reported that the vessel will undergo conversion into the offshore industry.
