A quieter time is expected over the Chinese New Year holidays, in part because business accelerated ahead of the celebrations in the East, fortifying the dry bulk freight market once again last week. But some industry watchers are not convinced that the Chinese will absent themselves entirely even over the holidays, keeping the cornerstone of the current dry market intact. What is more, the demand side now has a far broader base than just China although, as regards China, there is more evidence that the decline in Chinese coal export availability is having a tangible positive impact on shipping demand as Australia, for one, is tapped for its coal as substitute supplier.
