Australia's importers may be close to scoring a pivotal victory against a shipping group whose rates they regard as too high. In mid-2003, importers lodged complaints with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, alleging unreasonable freight rate increases by the 16 shipping members of the Asia-Australia Discussion Agreement (AADA), which covers trade from Northeast Asia to Australia. Earlier this month, the commission released a paper outlining preliminary conclusions from its inquiry.
