South African fruit exports have had a long association with Europe, a market that still devours more than half of SA citrus exports. But since the industry deregulated in the 1990s, Europe's share has dropped in the face of a concentrated effort to expand the market. Other avenues into Europe have been successfully explored - none more so than the potentially lucrative Russian trade.
