Malta's nationally owned ship repair and building companies, Malta Drydocks and Shipbuilding, are beginning to face hard facts. A plan mooted in 1997 by UK consultancy Appledore to split up the Drydocks functions into separate repair and enterprise sections has borne little fruit, while over at Malta Shipbuilding new orders have been few and far between.
