As I am writing this short note, 2017 is ending and optimism and energy are invigorated by the anticipation of a New Year full of projects, ideas, travels, and work. As we reflect on the experiences we had in 2017, and what we have learnt from them, I would like to give you a very brief account on what happened related to our groups of interest, ferns and lycophytes, during the Botany Conference of 2017. Hopefully this short note will ignite your curiosity about the 2018 meeting and make you want to join.
