Ken Kuchera, fire chief for more than 20 years at the Farmington (Minn.) Fire Department, died June 6 from colon cancer. He was 63. Kuchera helped plan the city's two fire stations and institute new policies, such as banning alcohol use in the department in the 1990s. He also led the department's transition from a fraternal organization to a city department.
