For many years, 2,400 and 2,540 dpi have been the industry standard resolutions for plate imaging. In years past, these resolutions provided more than enough bandwidth to handle reproduction of halftone screened gray levels at the common lpis of the flexographic process. As the industry continues to push forward into finer halftone screens, 2,400/2,540 dpi will no longer be adequate for accurate tonal reproduction. In this article, I'll explain the benefits of high resolution digital plate imaging and why it deserves consideration for your next equipment purchase.
