The HSI in my Baron crapped out on the way home from Oshkosh. Apparently the tiny gears that actually rotate the compass card chewed themselves up. The compass system and the electrically driven gyro, which sits out in the nose of my Baron, were still working fine. I knew this by watching the slaving indicator that shows when the compass wants to move the card left or right.
