Diamond Aircraft CEO Christian Dries recently climbed into the cockpit of the DA50-JP7 turboprop together with another test pilot and took the airplane for its first flight from the company headquarters in Wiener Neustadt East Airport south of Vienna. "This aircraft with this turbine engine almost flies like a rocket," Dries said at the conclusion of the 40-minute flight. The test flight evaluated the airplane's agility, power ratings at different altitudes up to 8,000 feet and climb rates at various speeds. At 3,300 pounds, the airplane climbed at 2,800 fpm. The top speed achieved during the flight was 175 knots.
