With the Cessna 182 Skylane diesel project near completion, Cessna has announced that it will offer a factory-direct version of the Skyhawk with the Continental CD-155 engine - the Turbo Skyhawk JT-A. Cessna tried the concept a few years ago and was near certification with the Thielert Centurion 2.0 engine. But when Thielert became insolvent, the project was shelved. The CD-155 engine that is being installed in the Skyhawk now is the latest version of the Centurion 2.0, so Cessna already has a leg up on the certification program. Additionally, the engine is already flying in many Skyhawks under supplemental type certification. As a result, Cessna expects the certification program to be quick and hopes to start delivering the Turbo Skyhawk JT-A as soon as next year.
