When I first flew the PC-12 NG during the summer of 2008,1 reported that the Honeywell Apex PFDs in the airplane would soon be capable of displaying synthetic vision. As it turned out, "soon" was still a ways off. The utility is expected to be released on Build 8 of the suite's software, which will be available soon. Synthetic vision, brand name SmartView for Apex, wilt show a computerized rendering of the outside world. Pilatus has not yet announced a price. In addition to SmartView, Build 8 (the current Build 7 is pictured) will feature holding pattern entries, automatic initialization at startup, pitch- and path-based flight director modes, a dynamic airspeed bug for no-brainer approach speed bugging, and integrated angle of attack data on the airspeed tape.
