Stephen Pope and John King are right on about risk management [On Course, February]. The only way to be perfectly safe is to stay in bed, and even that has its own risks. But the Roy Halladay crash is entirely different. I enjoy boating in warmer months and see the wild antics people do with jet skis. Unless they hit something solid, the only downside of a bad maneuver is they end up in the water. Icon Aircraft is billing and promoting its aircraft as "a jet ski with wings." If anyone thinks they can do the same sort of antics with an Icon that jet skiers do, they - like Halladay - are inviting disaster. Icon is producing a great product, but by marketing it as a jet ski, it is only inviting others to disaster and giving GA a black eye. We deserve better, and they should know better.
