Someone asked me how I thought the safety record in light sport flying would settle in after a few years. My first thought was, "Who knows," but after thinking about it for a while I realized that we have already been there and done that. Because training is so important to any new endeavor I will tell you a true story about flying technique in airplanes that would certainly qualify under the light sport rules. Of the first 14 pilots commissioned by the U.S. Army, eight were soon dead by airplane. The flying was all done at low altitude and in good weather and nobody had a ready explana-tion for the deadly nature of the airplane.
