How do you increase the cabin size of a business jet by 25 percent but actually reduce the overall drag? That is exacdy what Gulfstream has done with the new midsize G150. It seems like magic, but the G150's new comfortable cabin comes without a drag penalty thanks to the aerodynamic expertise of Gulfstream engineers and their production partners at Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI). The G150 is, of course, a remarkable evolution of the G100, which has been the fastest jet in the midsize category, but it also had the smallest cabin. The G100 cabin cross section dates all the way back to the Jet Commander of the 1960s. Over the years IAI stretched and improved the Commander to become the West- wind, and then in 1985 created an all-new high-tech wing but used essentially the same Westwind Cabin in the Astra. When Gulfstream purchased the Astra from IAI about five years ago it inherited a speedy jet with long range, but the cabin was out of date for a midsize jet. The Gulfstream solution is the G150.
