I braced my feet against the rudder pedals, tensed my leg muscles and raised my aching buttocks a fraction of an inch off the hard seat pack. Ten more minutes to go, I thought. Ten more lousy minutes and this miserable hop will be done. Over two hours ago I launched from a far northern Air Force base in this twin-jet Banshee photo aircraft (F2H-2P) to take intelligence pictures of an area that was supposedly beyond the range of strike aircraft. Even though this was the cold war, I had flown over a potential enemy airbase taking pictures of the installation at first light to have a record of the defensive capabilities and, if possible, an inventory of aircraft types.
