Wearing the attractive colours of Jasta 19 'Les Tangos' pilot Martin Mallmann while he was serving on the Western Front, this Albatros D.V replica is the latest in diecast giant Corgi's 'WW11914-1918' series. Limited to a production run of just 1,200 units, this is a humble homage to Mallmann who was shot down and killed flying 2111/17 'M' on January 19,1918 by the French Sous-Lt Pierre Marinovitch - see Grim reaper decor in last issue's What's New. With a wingspan of just over 7in, this delightful miniature includes a pilot figure, delicate rigging, a fixed undercarriage and a wood grain-effect spinning prop. Corgi has replicated the type's shark-like shape beautifully and while some diecast models are hindered by obvious join lines, it has used the D.V's natural fuselage texture to conceal these.
