I hadn't bought FlyPast before, but the September issue caught my eye as I waited in the queue at Morrisons so it was an impulse buy. Why? Because Spitfire PL983 was on the front cover. This is a Spitfire I was due to 'meet' on the Friday before lockdown, but as non-essential travel was discouraged we didn't go. PL983 was one of the many Spitfires my grandfather flew when he was in the RAF, mostly with 6 MU. It first appears in his logbook during November 1944 when he took it up for an instrument test. The next time was during the last six months of 1946 where it seems to have been used on any commute he needed to do.
