Clearly, diligent research has gone into this excellent book, which will appeal to any Spitfire enthusiast... and in particular those lucky enough to have flown in an airworthy restored airframe and adopted that 'Spitfire Smile'. Authors Greg Davis, John Sanderson and Peter Arnold have seemingly left no stone unturned in their quest to tell the story of the Spitfire trainer, covering this subtype with initial tables of serials by user country, conversions/rebuilds and warbird-era aircraft. Two pages of high-quality colour profiles do an excellent job of relaying the liveries and wide-ranging service, both military and civilian. A superb selection of period and present-day photos continues to offer context and detail and, supported by the informative text, delves into the subjects of company marketing, development and individual airframes. If you fancy taking the plunge yourself and want to know more about flying in a restored two-seater, there's also a useful section on current operators, such as Aero Legends, Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar, Aerial Collective and Ultimate Warbird Flights to name just some. The authors set out to produce the definitive work on two-seat Spitfires. We think they've done it.
