Remembrance Day could not have been a more appropriate occasion on which to talk to the new 'Boss' of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Sitting in the Coningsby crew room, with Sqn Ldr Ian Smith, six days into his new post, we were chatting when a whistle warned of the coming of the two-minute silence at the eleventh hour of November 11. BBMF's motto is of course, 'Lest We Forget'. It is a common misconception that the OC and his team have it easy during the winter. The engineering team have a hangar full ofrnaircraft requiringrnvarying levels ofrnmaintenance and face a huge job. Ian is full of praise for them: "If it weren't for the winter work and the engineers and support staff, the hangar doors would never open."
