Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L. ssp. rhamnoides) is a plant of the family Elaeagnaceae, naturally distributed over Asia and Europe. The berries of Hippophae rhamnoides are rich in flavonoids, carote-noids and vitamins and are traditionally used for ethnomedicinal remedies in Tibet, Mongolia, China and Central Asia. The high nutritive value of sea buckthorn berries and related produets has attracted increasing interest also in Europe and North America [1].
